Mr. Cohen tells me that he is due to leave London for India on Saturday and that it is not possible to get to Basra unless the 'plane by which he is travelling actually goes on that route, which normally it does not. He says, however, that there is a military land service from Ind to Basra, and that he is advised that he should be able to secure a passage on that route on the return journey.

T. have advised against asking the Foreign Office to send a reminder to Baghdad since the matter of Mr. Coleman's possible transfer to Hong Kong is a delicate one, particularly in view of the fact that he is at present a servant of the Iraqi Government and it would be unreasonable to harry the Ambassador just yet. ceperially a See the F.O. It seems most unlikely that the Foreign Office will hear from Baghdad before Saturday and still less likely that Mr. Coleman would arrive here during the 10 days or so that Mr. Cohen will be away. I think, therefore, that we should avail ourselves of his services and ask him to explain matters to Mr. Coleman on his return journey.
